Faith in Action Sunday – August 29

In one of the early letters of our faith, the author writes that “faith without works is dead.” As followers of Jesus, we are invited to be both sharing in the work of justice and charity.

On  Sunday, August 29, we will worship together for a shorter period of time and then we will move to various parts of our building (or beyond) in order that we can participate in mission projects.

Some will benefit our own faith community; some will benefit the greater Cedar Rapids area.  These projects are designed to be for all ages, all abilities, all skill levels. Here are some of the opportunities that you will be able to choose from:

  • Tie One On : Finishing quilts for Linus Project
  • Gift Bags: Filling bags with personal care items for guests of Olivet Mission
  • Clean up! Clean up!  Everyone do their share!  Small projects around our church building and grounds
  • Chalk the Walk: Coloring the sidewalk for the Hiawatha Fire Department and our sidewalk on 10th Avenue
  • Care Notes: Making and addressing cards for some of our congregation members and guests who are not able to worship with us on a regular basis
  • School Is In: We will be collecting school supplies for Hiawatha Elementary School

If we fill an entire shopping cart with items, there will be a surprise involving water balloons and Pastor Mary Beth!

Come ready to worship. Come ready to put your faith in action.  Come ready for fellowship
