Hope UCC Book Club Makes Update to Its Reading Selection for October
The Hope UCC Book Club had a great meeting on Thursday, September 16 with good food and good book discussion. The group liked Chaim Potok’s The Chosen so much that it was decided to read the second in the series, The Promise. The book continues Reuven and Danny’s story. “Young Reuven Malter is unsure of himself and his place in life. An unconventional scholar, he struggles for recognition from his teachers. With his old friend Danny Saunders—who himself had abandoned the legacy as the chosen heir to his father’s rabbinical dynasty for the uncertain life of a healer — Reuven battles to save a sensitive boy imprisoned by his genius and rage. Painfully, triumphantly, Reuven’s understanding of himself, though the boy change, as he starts to approach the peace he has long sought…”
The group will be meeting at the church on Sunday, October 17th after our Sunday morning service to discuss the book. The book is not available in a book club kit so check the library system or 1/2 price books for a copy.
We will save Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein for those readers that do not get nightmares from horror novels!
The Hope UCC Book Club is open to all persons who wish to participate in this group. Contact Nancy Kotalik, group organizer, at firstname.lastname@example.org, for more information.
