Family Promise

Hope United Church of Christ was scheduled to participate with Family Promise of Linn County this week.  Here is an update from our Family Promise Coordinator, Cathy Evers:

We have a new family in the program! The family is a mother and six children.  Gordon Rey, Program Director for Family Promise, shared that they family is currently living in a parish home in Vinton.  Therefore, we will not be housing this family here at Hope UCC during the week of October 18-24. Yet, there is an opportunity for us to provide groceries for this family. Rey is willing to deliver these for us.  Non-perishable food items such as:

  • Cereal
  • Peanut butter
  • Jelly
  • Apple sauce
  • Canned fruits and vegetables
  • Granola bars

These items need to be dropped off at the church by Monday, October 19. If you wish to make a financial donation to help support this ministry and mission, please mark your gift so that our financial secretary, Deb Strunk, places the funds in the appropriate place. These financial gifts can either be sent to the church office (150 9th Avenue, Hiawatha, 52233) or dropped off.

In other news, the program will be moving to St. Stephens in the near future.  There will be some remodeling done to add a shower so this could provide for overnight or short term stays and be the Day Center for Family Promise.  Rey has been concentrating on a Prevention, Diversion, and Stabilization program for three families that needed rental assistance/temporary housing because of the derecho.
